I began my career as on Active Duty in the United States Army (2006-2011). I spent nearly five years as a Judge Advocate General (attorney), an experience that was highlighted by a deployment to Iraq in 2008. I also spent time practicing as a Tax Attorney, Contract & Fiscal Law Attorney, Administrative Attorney and completed my tenure in the Army as a prosecutor.
Over the past 8 years, while with Ryan Companies (2011 - 2015) followed by Mortenson Development, Inc. (2015 - 2019), I supported and then led a number of developments across the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota. The seminal achievement of my development career was leading the development of One Discovery Square, the first phase of a Life Science district in Rochester, Minnesota, which was done in collaboration with Mayo Clinic, the University of Minnesota Rochester, Epic Medical Records, and a variety of other commercial partners. The District is described as the economic engine of the Destination Medical Center, a $585M public-private partnership -- the largest such partnership in Minnesota's history.

As Chief Operating Officer of Colliers International-MN, Mark Parten leads the Real Estate Management, Project Management, Architecture, Engineering and Property Services companies, as well as the Workplace Innovation vertical. . Mark’s entrepreneurial approach and ability to provide clients with comprehensive strategic results have resulted in growth, year after year. His in-depth knowledge of the industry and market have been instrumental in expanding Colliers International’s presence in the Twin Cities market.
Mark’s comprehensive vision and drive for excellence has helped to establish Collier’s International, MN's goal of providing exceptional service while creating value within clients' real estate portfolios. Prior to his promotion to Chief Operating Officer in 2017, Mark successfully integrated the Real Estate Management division with the Colliers leasing, investment sales, and marketing professionals, providing strategic and innovative solutions to achieve client goals.
Mark’s motivational leadership and strategic approach ensure that all members of his teams are positioned for success on behalf of a diverse group of institutional and entrepreneurial clients. He is skilled at optimizing internal operations and leveraging core strengths and relationships, enabling him to provide direction and leadership for the organization.
Mark has more than 20 years of industry experience, having managed properties in the Chicago and Twin Cities markets. Prior to joining Colliers International in 2005, Mark worked at CB Richard Ellis in Minneapolis and before that at Heitman and Kennedy-Wilson Properties in Chicago. Mark’s prior management experience has included Class A and B Office, Industrial, Retail and Multi-Family assets.

Being the CEO of one of the largest commercial real estate firms in the Twin Cities is not something I take lightly. As an industry leader and integral member of the commercial real estate sector, I have a reputation for listening, providing straightforward counsel and executing and delivering results. I have been a key contributor to the company since 1987 and strive to embody the entrepreneurial spirit and core values upon which our firm was built: integrity, excellence, teamwork, and innovation.
Through hands-on leadership, I actively lead the strategy of the company’s real estate services, including; Brokerage, Real Estate Management, Project Management, Architecture and Engineering & Property Services. I am responsible for collaborating with a high performance management team to achieve the objectives of the company and our clients by fostering a results-orientated culture that encourages creative thinking. I have been vigilant about upholding the commitment to excellence that made our company what it is today.
I refuse to sit behind a desk all day, so I am always actively engaged with employees to determine company-wide initiatives that will increase Colliers’ success for years to come. Under my leadership, Colliers Minneapolis/St. Paul has grown to 240 professionals and is recognized as a top commercial real estate provider throughout the Midwest. I have been instrumental in supporting company initiatives to create best-in-class solutions, not only for clients, but also for the company’s employees and brokers. As a result, Colliers Minneapolis/St. Paul has been named a top workplace in the Twin Cities by both the Star Tribune and the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.
I have been active in the business community for over 30 years and my local influence extends to a national level as well. I have served as a member of NAIOP’s distinguished National Executive Committee and served as National Chairman in 2014 In 2017. I have been recognized as one of The MN Business Journal’s Most Admired CEO's, National Real Estate Investor's Top 11 Women CRE Executives and I recieved the National NAIOP Outstanding Service Award in 2017. I currently serve on several executive committees for various local and national business associations and I am committed to working with other corporate and community leaders to cultivate economic growth in the Twin Cities and throughout Minnesota. I have been a featured speaker and panelist at events across the country, sharing my insights and unique perspective on the industry with other professionals.
