Cannabis’ history in the United States is a complicated one. As recent as 2016, the substance was illegal in California and operated under the watchful eye of law enforcement. All that changed with Proposition 64 which legalized recreational marijuana for persons over the age of 21. With an estimated total economic impact of $71.4 billion annually within the US, cannabis owners and operators represent a significant portion of the economy.
