Silicon Valley Absorption Ebbs Amid Shelter-in-Place
Silicon Valley commercial property markets continued to be battered by the COVID-19 public health crisis and the consequent shelter-in-place order, which remained in effect for the entirely of Q2 2020. For the second consecutive quarter net absorption was negative. Every tracked product type experienced negative net absorption with occupancy losses totaling 2.1 million square feet in Q2 alone and roughly 2.5 million square feet year to date. Silicon Valley commercial markets have not witnessed such extraordinary oscillations since the Great Recession.
