Oakland - November 27, 2017 – The historic property at 1701 Franklin Street in Oakland’s thriving Uptown is for sale after a stunning renovation by Jeremy Kidson, the iconic high-end retailer and Bay Area trendsetter. Kidson purchased the building in 2016 intending to consolidate his Bay Area retail stores into a single multi-dimensional retail/entertainment destination.

Drawn to its architectural detail and vibrant Oakland location, Kidson personally oversaw the structure’s renovation and re-purposed the original design as a church into a flexible and contemporary 10,000 square foot space that will serve the needs of a variety users.

“This is a jewel of a property which I believe can add so much to the already dynamic vibe of the Uptown section of downtown Oakland. Historically significant architect Henry Schulze designed the structure in 1900 in what was then a predominately residential neighborhood. Schulze, who was a partner in the same firm that designed the San Francisco Ferry Building, also designed the Folgers Coffee Building at 101 Howard Street and the Olympic Club in San Francisco. Schulze and the original contractor belonged to the church’s congregation, and their personal commitment to the project remains evident in the 115 year old building. By 2016, however, the congregation decided it was time to shift both its mandate and location, and sold the property to Kidson.
