No Barriers, No Ceiling: Colliers Remains a Passionate Champion of Women and Minorities in Commercial Real Estate

Colliers | San Francisco wins coveted Break the Ceiling: Corporate Leadership Award at this year’s ELEVATE Ceremony

SAN FRANCISCO - April 30th, 2018 – Colliers | San Francisco was recently recognized as the winner of the ELEVATE Break the Ceiling: Corporate Leadership Award at the 3rd Annual Gala Honoring Diversity and Women’s Leadership in Commercial Real Estate. The award is presented to the company that best promotes equality in the workplace by establishing strong programs to advance women and/or culturally diverse employees within the commercial real estate industry.

Colliers’ leadership in San Francisco (and across North America) embarked some time ago on a campaign of activism for true change for women in commercial real estate. “It is a real honor to have attracted top, top female brokers to our office, industrial, multi family, retail and Asia Pacific divisions. Maddie Meyersieck, Kalah Espinosa, Ali McEvoy, Yang Chen, Julie Taylor, and many, many more have crashed through the ceiling as though it did not exist,” says Alan Collenette, Colliers Regional Executive Managing Director and winner of ELEVATE 2017 Inspirator Award. “In our other non-broker staffing, the story is the same. It is a matchless inspiration to watch the future of our industry hurtle headlong into dizzying heights.”

By creating a space with a variety of perspectives, Colliers International has increased its professionals’ capacity for success and innovation. With 51% of the US population being female, Colliers maintains that there is no rationale for the commercial real estate industry to have a different ratio.

“As a woman of Asian descent at Colliers, in the recruiting process and now as a team member, I have never felt that there has been anything other than proactive encouragement to succeed on an even footing with my male, Caucasian colleagues,” says Yang Chen, Vice President, Founder and Leader of the Colliers Asia Pacific Division. Chen was also nominated for the prestigious 2018 Rising Star Award at ELEVATE.

Colliers International leads the commercial real estate industry in proactively hiring, encouraging, mentoring and championing women. Forbes Magazine honored Colliers as a Best Employer and is the only real estate services firm serving as a member of the NDC (National Diversity Council), which provides an opportunity for organizations to establish business partnerships, benchmark best practices and promote a brand name as diversity leaders at the national, regional and state level.

The Colliers Women’s Diversity Program has become the gold standard in moving real estate away from the traditional male-dominated landscaped that commercial real estate had previously inhabited. The program was developed by Colliers’ senior female executives to provide mentorship, networking opportunities and professional development to help women grow their commercial real estate careers and leadership skills.

The Registry has partnered with the three Bay Area CREW Chapters to produce the 3rd Annual ELEVATE event, an iconic Bay Area wide celebration of women in the commercial real estate industry. The event honors companies and exemplary women and men who are making a positive impact in today’s real estate industry.
