Colliers Retail Assists Venerable Philadelphia Clothier with New Suburban Location

September 28, 2020 [Philadelphia, PA]Larry Steinberg, leader of Colliers’ Urban Retail and Main Line team has successfully leased a new outpost at Ardmore’s Suburban Square for Philadelphia’s most venerable clothier, Boyds. 

The 10,000 square foot space, formerly leased to Urban Outfitters, will be utilized by Boyds on a temporary basis, from October through January of this year. While simultaneously maintaining its Philadelphia flagship location, the luxury retailer will “test the waters” to offer safe and convenient access to its suburban clients, who may be working from home and entering the city less. A secondary goal of attracting previously untapped clientele may validate a longer term second suburban location when the lease is reevaluated in early 2021.  

“After an intensive search of the Main Line, Boyds decided on Suburban Square. The upscale tenant mix, abundance of parking and open-air shopping experience presented the best option for Boyds in this challenging time for retail.” offered Steinberg.

The original Boyds located at 1818 Chestnut Street reopened to the public on September 16th, after a tumultuous spring and summer of COVID and civil unrest. In addition to its new, suburban pop-up the 83-year old retail plans to diversify its renowned service experience through a newly-bolstered private personal shopping area and introduction of unique in-home and new virtual selling services.

The Boyds Pop-Up Shop at Suburban Square officially opens to the public October 7th.

Laurence Steinberg joined Colliers in April 2019 to lead and further grow the Urban Retail division in Philadelphia.
