New tenant in the works for former Burton Goodwill store

Plans are in the works for a new tenant at the long-vacant property at the northeast corner of Saginaw Street and Bristol Road in Burton.

Lou Frango, a senior associate with global real estate services and investment management company Colliers International, confirmed the property at 3525 Saginaw Street was recently sold to developer ALRIG USA.

The purchase price was not disclosed.

He noted the planned use is for a "medical client" out of the metro Detroit area to utilize the building that first housed a CVS Pharmacy and then a Goodwill store that moved out in 2011.

Heather Heinka, director of acquisitions for ALRIG USA, said in an email to MLive-The Flint Journal that "We are excited to invest in Burton and bring occupancy to a building that has been left vacant for so long.

"Unfortunately, we are not at liberty to share details at this time but as we get further along we will be in touch," she added.

ALRIG USA has completed two projects off Miller Road in Flint Township. The buildings house a Texas Roadhouse as well as Five Guys, Potbelly and T-Mobile, according to the developer's website.

Frango pointed out additional groups have taken interest in the Saginaw Street property over the years -- including a dollar store and auto parts store -- but those deals fell through for various reasons.

Amber Abbey, the city's superintendent of building, planning, and zoning, said permits have been granted for interior demolition work, but no site plan has yet been submitted by the developer.
