The shuttered OfficeMax in Delaware is being replaced with an Ohio-based discount retailer.
Discount Fashion Warehouse will open a new 14,100-square-foot location at 1000 Sunbury Road in the Glennwood Commons Shopping Center. Its soft opening is Jan. 15, the company confirmed.
The store specializes in men's and women's clothing, sportswear and intimate apparel, usually sold at sharp discounts.
“We are very excited to open our tenth store located in the Delaware area, a location we’ve been scouting for a long time," Mark Laufersweiler, a vice president at the retailer, said in a statement. “It’s such a dynamic area with substantial growth yet to come."
It'll be the sixth local store for Discount Fashion Warehouse, which also has stores in Dayton, Cleveland and Cincinnati. The pandemic has brought challenges for many retail brands, but large-floorplate retailers have managed social distancing guidelines more easily and discount names are also seeing steady business from budget-conscious shoppers, President Jeff Bradshaw said.
“Covid clearly impacted and continues to impact all retail stores in all categories," Bradshaw said in the statement. "With these trying times, Covid has forced us to get better and be sharper in every aspect of our business."
The shop will be open Monday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Lewis Center resident Mohan Reddy Gosula purchased the 100,000-square-foot Glennwood Commons shopping center for $4.8 million in a deal that closed Aug. 26. OfficeMax closed in November.
Gilli Zofan, Andrew White and Jon Leffler of Colliers International manage leasing for the property. According to data from Colliers, 32,000 vehicles per day pass by this part of Sunbury Road and there's a population of 49,300 within 5 miles with an average household income of more than $94,000.
