Spartanburg, SC - Colliers International | South Carolina is pleased to announce that it is opening a new location in Spartanburg, SC. In conjunction with Colliers’ new office, the firm announces that John Montgomery has joined the commercial real estate enterprise as a Vice President. Montgomery will partner with long-term Spartanburg real estate professional Garrett Scott, who joined Colliers in 2015. This is the fourth Colliers location in the state, along with Greenville, Columbia and Charleston.
“Opening a Colliers office in Spartanburg is an important element of our strategy to serve our rapidly expanding client base and aligning with John Montgomery provides our firm with extraordinary new talent. John is among the finest commercial real estate professionals in South Carolina and is a valuable addition to our Colliers team,” said John W. Folsom, President and CEO of Colliers | South Carolina. “The breadth of his experience significantly enhances our firm’s ability to serve our clients not only in the Upstate, but across South Carolina and in the Southeast as well.”
"I am thrilled to be joining Garrett Scott and the Colliers team to open a Spartanburg location,” said Montgomery. “With Garrett's vast experience in the industrial development industry, as well as all of the economic activity that Spartanburg is experiencing, I think this is a perfect time for a top-ranked national firm such as Colliers to expand their presence in the market."
The addition of Montgomery to the Colliers staff is yet another example of Colliers’ expansion plans in the Upstate, which are focused on meeting the needs of the growing commercial real estate market in the region. The Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson metro area has benefited from heightened interest from out-of-market developers and investors, as well as national corporate relocations, in recent years, which highlights the need for Colliers to provide a greater breadth of commercial real estate services across the region. This expansion in the state of South Carolina mirrors the larger corporate efforts of the international enterprise, which has been in an expansion mode in markets across the globe.
“Colliers prides itself on combining the best of local, boots-on-the-ground market expertise with a global, cutting-edge platform. Adding a physical presence in Spartanburg is the next logical step for us,” said David Feild, Market President of Greenville and Spartanburg locations. “With the increased growth, development and interest in the Upstate region, it only makes sense for us to increase our presence in the market with the addition of the new location and the alignment with highly regarded professionals to better meet our clients’ needs and accelerate their success.”
Montgomery has extensive professional experience in the Upstate commercial real estate market, particularly in the development, brokerage and sales of industrial properties. He was the Vice President of Real Estate for Pacolet Milliken Enterprises, Inc. for several years, leaving to become the CEO of Montgomery Development Group. One of his most recent notable projects has been the redevelopment of Drayton Mills, a master-planned community in Spartanburg, but his development experience encompasses industrial land and parks in South Carolina and Georgia. He has overseen and developed thousands of acres of real estate and economic development projects worth billions of dollars, including Toray Carbon Fibers, Ritrama and Magna Seating.
Montgomery’s commitment to his community is evident in his civic participation. A graduate of the Liberty Fellowship and the National Outdoor Leadership School, he has served on the Board of Trustees for Converse College and the Board of Directors for Glenn Springs Academy, Boys and Girls Clubs of the Upstate, SAFE Homes Rape Crisis Coalition, Spartanburg Community College Foundation and the University of South Carolina Upstate Foundation Board.
Clay Adams, Executive Vice President and Head of Real Estate for Pacolet Milliken Enterprises, said, “John cares a tremendous amount about the Upstate in particular and South Carolina in general. The Colliers platform will further enhance his ability to be a champion for the economic potential of this area as it builds upon its well-earned place in the national conversation for corporate relocations, industrial expansion, and growth initiatives.”
He added, “Pacolet Milliken has had a great relationship with John since the earliest days of our firm, and this endeavor with Garrett Scott, also a valuable advisor to our firm through his work at Colliers as one of the area’s top industrial brokers, provides a new way to continue our long and successful relationship with John.”
“It’s been a pleasure working with John on multiple projects and proving how well our skillsets complement one another,” said Scott. “I am excited about expanding Colliers’ footprint locally and having the pleasure of doing so with my friend and now partner, John Montgomery.”
Within Colliers, Montgomery will join the team of Garrett Scott and Brockton Hall, senior industrial specialists and development services advisors.
The new Spartanburg location will offer expertise for all product types and services in the Colliers platform by leveraging the firm’s expertise in the Upstate and across South Carolina. This is the model that has led Colliers to such success in South Carolina and around the world, by promoting specialization among its brokerage professionals, who focus on office, retail, industrial and investment properties and collaborate with other specialists, such as those in property management, development services and corporate solutions. Colliers also provides customized solutions to meet the needs of the client rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach to commercial real estate.
