David Amsterdam is President, U.S. Capital Markets and Northeast Region. He is responsible for managing and executing investment sales, debt & equity and structured finance transactions across the U.S. and in critical global markets. In addition, he leads the firm in top-tier cities, including New York, Boston, and Washington D.C.
His responsibilities include advising investors, corporate users, and landlords across the full spectrum of commercial real estate transactions and he is focused on continuing to drive revenue for the fastest-growing publicly traded real estate services and investment management firm in the world.
Accomplishments
Mr. Amsterdam has a proven track record of outstanding success in the commercial real estate industry.
Already in his decorated career, he has held leadership positions at some of the most notable real estate firms in the world, including at Cushman & Wakefield, SL Green Realty Corp. and currently at Colliers.
While with SL Green, Mr. Amsterdam was responsible for structuring and negotiating lease transactions for a portfolio of 10 million square feet of trophy Class A assets and routinely completed nearly 100 transactions per year. He implemented redevelopment, repositioning and strategic upgrading programs throughout the portfolio and dispositions and joint ventures.
Before joining SL Green, Amsterdam served as Associate Director, Global Brokerage at Cushman & Wakefield for seven years, where he represented corporate users and owners in over three million square feet of transactions throughout the world.
During his tenure with Cushman & Wakefield, Amsterdam was a recipient of the company’s “Gold Production Award” as its top producing salesperson.
His industry successes have been recognized in the form of numerous awards and accolades from leading commercial real estate industry publications and organizations.
In 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 he was named to the Commercial Observer Power 100 list -- an industry honor reserved for the most influential and significant individuals in real estate.
In 2019, Mr. Amsterdam was named a national “Influencer in Real Estate Finance” and selected as a “Best Boss in the Business” by Real Estate Forum.
Mr. Amsterdam was also selected to Real Estate Forum’s 2018 “50 Under 40” list, which recognizes the industry’s rising stars nationally.
Mr. Amsterdam has also been named a “Rising Star” by Real Estate Weekly and was a Real Estate Board of New York nominee for “Most Promising Commercial Salesperson.”
He is also a member of the Forbes’ Real Estate Council.
Education
Mr. Amsterdam holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Syracuse University.
Memberships & Involvements
Mr. Amsterdam is a member of the Board of Directors of Friends of Hudson River Park, the longest waterfront park in the United States, which has transformed four miles of decaying piers and parking lots along Manhattan’s west side into a beloved, urban recreational paradise. Hudson River Park has also served as an important catalyst for economic development and job creation, attracting $3 billion in new construction at 94 new buildings in adjacent neighborhoods.
He also serves on the Real Estate Advisory Board of Syracuse University, and has been active in numerous charitable organizations.
