Professional Summary

As a vice president at Colliers, Adam Barrett is an occupier advisory specialist, focusing primarily on representing tenants in the Minneapolis Central Business District (CBD). He also works with office users across the Twin Cities metro and the greater United States.
An entrepreneur at heart, Adam has a deep appreciation for the dedication required to build a business of any size. His success as a commercial real estate advisor is built on the knowledge that a thriving business requires a team of experts to accentuate its strengths and solve for its weaknesses. He works closely with all stakeholders involved in a transaction, including attorneys, architects, project managers and contractors to ensure that all team members are aligned in their roles to exceed his clients’ expectations.

Because he is both a CBD specialist and a Minneapolis resident, Adam joined the Minneapolis Downtown Council, which works to improve the city for downtown businesses, residents and visitors. As a member, he collaborates with the City of Minneapolis governance and local community leaders to support equitable reform initiatives and downtown businesses.

Resulting from Adam’s business relationships and community involvement, he was named by “Twin Cities Business” as one of the top 100 “People to Know” in 2023.

A graduate of Southwest High School (International Baccalaureate) in Minneapolis, Adam credits much of his professional success to his strong educational base. He serves as the chair of the Southwest High School Board of Directors to help students receive the same benefits or better from public education today. Under Adam’s leadership, Southwest High School has become the only school in the Minneapolis district to bridge the achievement gap as measured by graduation rate and percentage of students in advanced International Baccalaureate classes.

At Robins Kaplan, my team is tasked with preserving the Firm’s values while also positioning the Firm for a new generation of lawyers and staff; our real estate footprint, across all of our offices, is a top priority in helping us achieve those goals. Through strategic guidance, understanding our adherence to cross-functional operations, policies and procedures, and balancing functional wants with financial realities, Adam acts seamlessly as an extension of our internal team.

Of greatest value: you listen, collaborate, and have a depth of market intelligence and relationships unparalleled in the industry.

We refer to Adam as the “un-broker”.  My team is proud of the immediate accomplishments and excited about the future of Robins Kaplan with him as a partner!

It has been a joy working and establishing a relationship with Adam Barrett. He is a market knowledge leader who understands that representation does not end at tours or the bargaining table; instead, he ensures all steps from budget to build-out to deliverables are completed efficiently and with every detail considered.

Since coming to know Adam professionally, he has also become my friend. He is a man of integrity and is genuinely interested in forging long-term partnerships built on mutual trust.  Adam has earned a tremendous reputation for working with the highest quality clients in the office market and works hard to solve business challenges that his clients face.

I have no doubt that Adam and I will continue to partner on projects, and I look forward to recommending him whenever the opportunity arises!

- Aaron Roseth, Principal, President, ESG Architecture and Design

We were fortunate to meet Adam at a time when our local team was at a crossroads.  We had been in a coworking space but were growing rapidly and wanted to secure a permanent space that provided us with stability, as well as serve as a tool to attract and retain talent.  There were many complex issues to navigate including being functionally and financially efficient with our move while meeting the priorities of our Corporate leadership group.

Adam did a full market search and brought options to the table that aligned with the expectations of both our Corporate and local teams. He collaborated with landlords and Needham representatives to negotiate a term that allowed us to avoid moving during our busiest time of the year and coincided perfectly with the completion of our spec suite.

Adam was consistently responsive, knowledgeable, and gracious throughout this process and it is reassuring to know that we can turn to him for solid advice and support as future real estate questions come up.  We are in our new space and happy to be there!

- Jim Abbruzzese,  Managing Director, Chief Compliance Officer, Needham & Company

Adam Barrett made finding our new office easier than we thought possible. He helped us explore options we wouldn’t have found on our own, landing us the perfect space that will serve us for years to come. Adam’s expertise in the Twin Cities market made all the difference, and most impressive of all was his timely and considerate attention to everything we needed from start to finish.”

Overall, during the second quarter, the market witnessed a decline in demand with the exception of premier Class A space.
