Excel center success story
Goodwill Industries, a national nonprofit dedicated to on-the-job training, workforce development and community building, looked to the DC market to expand its adult education footprint beyond its conception in Indianapolis, IN and additional campus sites in Texas. To diversify from established organizations and achieve ideal positioning for job market entry, Goodwill Excel required a school space featuring a centrally located, professional environment to help students acclimate while mastering vocational skills and earned a diploma.
Colliers looked for blocks of space in traditional office markets left vacant by education programs and universities. Most geographically acceptable options were in lower level spaces which are acceptable for adult education users in DC. In addition, a daycare space was required on the first floor so that students with children could also take full advantage of Excel’s innovative program.
Goodwill Excel signed a long-term lease (10 years with a 5-year option) in the first floor and lower level space at 1776 G Street NW, Washington, DC, formerly occupied by the G.W. University’s School of Engineering. This new campus is located blocks from the White House and in the heart of DC’s Central Business District providing the desired visibility and exposure to a professional setting.
“The Goodwill Excel Center team was pleased to work with Colliers International - Education Services Group as we researched potential locations for the first Goodwill Excel Center in Washington. They helped to bring many options to the table and were helpful in securing an exceptional location at 1776 G Street.” -Catherine Meloy, President & CEO
