Colliers Helps Yandex Open Office in Berlin

The Russian internet company Yandex has leased a new office in Berlin. The company’s R&D centre will be situated in a Class A business centre at Karl-Liebknecht-Straße 1. The office spans 2 stories and occupies approximately 2000 sqm in the building. Colliers International consulted on the deal, representing the interests of the tenant in the lease negotiations.
Yandex’s new office will be able to accommodate up to 130 employees. The 6-storey business centre on Karl-Liebknecht-Straße in the centre of Berlin hosts the offices of a number of Western companies, including internet retailer Amazon.

The first project for the new team will be developing the global version of the Yandex.Maps service. In the future the Berlin office will expand its scope to support other services of the company as well. At Yandex the development of services and technologies is delegated to specific offices. For example, the Yandex.Taxi service is being developed in Yekaterinburg, the Yandex.Realty service is being developed in St. Petersburg, while the offices in Moscow and Zurich offices are developing voice recognition technologies.

The Berlin office will be Yandex’s 16th worldwide and 3rd in Western Europe. In addition to Europe and Turkey, the company also has an office in Palo Alto, California. In total Yandex employs approximately 6000 people around the world. The company’s shares have been traded on NASDAQ in New York since 2011.
