Meet our Senior Client Engagement Officer, Vida Samaco, as she shares about her experience working in Colliers and her thoughts on finding and maintaining work-life balance.

1. What is your experience like in Colliers?

Not everyone knows that I came from a different industry before Colliers. The truth is, this “starting over” phase in my career life was scary and daunting. I can clearly recall one of the many interview questions I was asked that struck me the most and it was, “How do I think of the working environment in Colliers?” Without hesitation and despite being in the Colliers’ office for the third time only, I answered back then that Colliers has a very dynamic working environment. And this is how I would describe my experience in Colliers. Colliers respects diversity, fosters self-development and creates opportunities to grow and I am a testament to that. I am ever grateful for being given the opportunity to work here at Colliers and to having amazing people to work with.

2. How has after sales differentiated our office service?

The After-sales support of the Office Services team includes what brokers do at the point of sale. It also includes how we stay with them and support them not only during fit out but until their lease expiry, effectively dealing with complaints. With this additional value, it has helped us build better relationships with our clients and earn their trust and confidence in our service. This also sets us apart now that we are in this new temporary reality wherein we need to understand and cater to our clients more than simply reaping profit.

Moreover, having a designated after-sales person in our team makes us work more effectively and efficiently.

3. What's the best compliment that you have gotten from a client?

The best compliment I have received from a client is about how I was able to live up to what was expected of me as someone providing after-sales. Being responsive to client’s concerns and knowledgeable about the ins & outs of the business are big compliments for me as it was the fruit of all my dedication and passion in learning the real estate industry.

4. What advice would you give your younger self?

My advice to my younger self is to take a leap of faith in yourself. You've got nothing to lose but everything to gain. If you fail, you'll become smarter. If you succeed, you'll gain even more self-confidence and the emotional and financial rewards. You'll never know the limit of how much you can achieve until you take a leap of faith in yourself and try. Keep your focus right. Invest in yourself. Accelerate your learning curve. See life as a progressive journey. And you'll certainly achieve anything you set your mind to.

Lastly, surround yourself with people who have dreams, desires and ambition. They’ll help you push for, and realize your own.

5. If you had the world's attention for five minutes, what will you say or do?

If I had the world’s attention for five minutes, I will share Ephesians 4:1-6:

As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

We are sadly a divided people, and it should not be so. It’s ok to have differences. That’s part of being human. It’s the way God made us but work hard at building on common ground. Differences aren't the problem. It's how we handle the differences.

6. With two kids, how do you balance family and career?

Finding the right balance can feel completely overwhelming but these have helped me managed my work & family life:

• Set priorities – Weekdays are devoted for work while weekends are for my family
• Plan and do things in advance – both for work & family
• Build habits into your life – we have already established a family movie every Friday night, family devotion every Sunday and breakfast time as a sacred family time for us.
• Despite my busy schedule at work and at home, I make sure that I am always there for the moments like a school fair, play, game, or simply parent-teacher conferences
• Lastly, having the best partner who supports you and share the same values with you is really the key
