The government wants to adapt the housing evaluation system to improve the affordability of rental housing. Minister Ollongren plans to achieve this by introducing a so-called ‘WOZ cap’. This should ensure that the WOZ value (estimate of the market value) of the home plays a lesser role in determining the level of the rental price. However, this rule only affects 1.5% of all rental houses in the Netherlands. As a result, hardly any households will pay less rent.
Rents will hardly drop due to newly proposed regulation
