Sustainability efforts in the Dutch retail sector

There is far too little attention for sustainability performances of Dutch stores. Energy labels are lacking en masse and energy consumption is far too high to achieve the goals of the climate agreement. Without legislation from the government, property owners and retailers will not feel the pressure to take action. To take a closer look at the situation, we spoke with real estate investors that represent 15% of Dutch retail space.

I joined Colliers in October 2016 as Marketing Manager. Today  I'm the Chief Growth Officer and responsible for the sustainable growth of the company. A cross-functional job including marketing, sales, research & data, products and finance.

The teams marketing & business development, research & data and property marketing are responsible for strengthening the Colliers brand through integrated content marketing, programs focussing on high client satisfaction, and client centered product development. We also advice shopping mall owners on positioning, branding and marketing activities.

After studying Business Economics at the University of Tilburg I started my career at DLL Financial Services as marketer (4.5 years), followed by a senior marketer role at Achmea (4 years). Before I joined Colliers I worked at ABN AMRO as Senior Marketer International Clients (5 years) where I was among others responsible for the marketing activities of ABN AMRO Real Estate.

Michiel Boonen

Associate Director Capital Markets

I joined Colliers' Retail Capital Markets team in September 2020 and will be working on the acquisition and disposition of high street shops, shopping centers and retail warehouses in the Netherlands. Prior to working at Colliers, I worked for the Dutch branch of JLL and for both Dutch and EMEA teams of Cushman & Wakefield.

I have a longstanding experience with (retail) research & consultancy works and now strive to implement my market knowledge into the transaction process for retail real estate.

Next to working for Colliers, I am a sector teacher with the Amsterdam School of Real Estate, teaching the retail specialism for the market analysis course.
