Special office for a special company

Greenchoice is a supplier of 100% renewable energy and “forest-compensated” gas. What began as a start-up 15 years ago, has grown into a company with 400,000 customers and 275 employees.

"We want to stay in Rotterdam"
Due to the strong growth, Greenchoice needed new housing and a new way of working. The main condition was to stay in Rotterdam. Most employees live close by and they are essential to the company’s success. The new office also had to fit Greenchoice’s image: sustainable, transparent and not too corporate. A location well-connected to public transport and with lots of room for bicycles and electric cars was also on the wish list. With this assignment, Colliers began a search to find the right building.

A special, sustainable building
We knew that a unique office building would become available: the former “Construction Center”. After the war, all parties in the construction and real estate industry established here to rebuild Rotterdam as quickly and efficiently as possible. Information about new building styles, techniques and innovative materials was exhibited and knowledge was shared. A place where collaboration was the central focus.
With the landlord we negotiated an upgrade to energy label B. This was realized with a new climate control system, floor and roof insulation and the use of LED lighting. Greenchoice itself invested in solar panels to realize an A-label.

New workplace concept with focus on collaboration
Together with management and employees we developed a new workplace concept. Workplaces will be shared if possible. There is a large mix of workstations: for concentration, regular work and project work, and scrumming, meeting and brainstorming. This variety will lead to better cooperation, more dynamics and better interaction between departments.

Design with sustainable elements
The interior design reflects sustainability and health. The temperature can be set per area. Walls and ceilings are fitted with acoustic coverings and many plants and trees were used. Sustainable elements can be seen in the woodwork and furniture. FSC wood is used for the desks and tabletops, meeting chairs are made of recycled PET bottles and old aircraft tires are used in parts of the carpeting.
