I work at Colliers because I am empowered to build scale, and develop my expertise as a leader.

Meet Dick Olango, the award-winning, sustainability-focused architect from Nairobi, who has successfully expanded the capabilities of the Project Management team over the past four years, while developing his own profile as an enterprising leader in the real estate industry.

Why do you work at Colliers?
I joined Colliers because I really liked the values of the business, especially the encouragement to "Be enterprising". Colliers empowers its people to think and act differently to accelerate the success of its clients, as well as its people and communities.
The main reason I joined Colliers four years ago was that I wanted to be involved in the growth of the company. At the time, there were only two people on the project management team. As the head of the team, my main goal and mission were to expand the capabilities of the service line. Today, the team has exceeded 10 times, and I am very proud of the fact that we have grown not only in size but also to the point where we are generating revenue for the business.
While working at Colliers I have been empowered to develop my expertise as a leader while managing a large team, which has been a challenge, but one which I have enjoyed and has allowed me to accelerate my career.

What are your passions outside of your work at Colliers?
I am passionate about providing opportunities to people in local communities. Through Social Design Group OSA [1], I explore and promote technologies and projects that are eco-friendly, sustainable, and user-friendly to support sustainable community development in Kenya. Notable past projects include the installation of a pilot recyclable waterless toilet system, the introduction of a super water saving toilet system in water scarce areas and the design of a toilet block in a school in the slums of Nairobi.
