Although Covid-19 has undoubtedly accelerated the growth of e-commerce and the entry into digital world for many previously hesitant retailers, it is equally sure that there will always be room for physical retail.
Some experts predict fewer but better physical spaces, marked by an exponential improvement in the customer experience often expertly blended with the digital one. Therefore, the physical touchpoint will have to evolve to live up to the customer's expectations, in particular, the most demanding on the high-street.
The mass market and luxury sectors are in a historical moment of renewal and rethinking that requires a deep knowledge of local realities and macro-trends accompanying these changes. International tenants have specific needs, which require the support of highly specialized teams with varied skills, who are able to accommodate different needs and expertly accompany their transformations.
Our Retail experts work closely together to share and discuss new trends, new players in the market, and other insights that they are seeing locally. The EMEA Retail Core Team, is composed of experts from the key markets across the EMEA region, who are constantly in touch, exchanging insights between markets, to facilitate predicting different trends and consolidating direct relations with leading international players.
"Retail is experiencing an unprecedented historical moment; although the pandemic crisis has certainly hit the sector hard, at Colliers, we see the opportunity to rethink the customer experience. This will happen thanks to synergistic strategies and the rethinking of physical spaces of ever-increasing quality", commented Niccolò Suardi – Head of High Street Retail in Italy. “Our country will certainly have a central role in this project, both for its role in the luxury market and for the direct link that it will have with the resumption of international tourism flows. We believe very strongly in the European project and are striving to offer tenants a world-class service. Just these days, another experienced professional has joined our dedicated Italian team: Roberta Maiolino".
Before Covid-19, Italy had 436 million overnight stays per year, of which 50% were foreign tourists. The data reports that they spent €44.3 billion Euros, of which €7.6 billions from shopping. However, with forecasts of an increase in foreign tourist flows as early as 2022, it is clear that the implementation of a new retail vision cannot wait.
