Bali lost 96% of its market from China due to the COVID-19 outbreak. China was amongst the top three markets to frequent Bali. From January to February, both occupancy and room revenue plummeted, albeit still in line with seasonal patterns. However, March saw a substantial drop in both AOR and ADR with early signs like the closure of hotel operations and a very special discounted rate for staycations.
To sail through the hardship, efficiency is the key and a chief measure is cutting operating costs. We have witnessed some hotels implementing this by closing down facilities that are not performing and by activating only certain floors occupied by guests to reduce the use of energy.
