Hong Kong has a shortage of accommodation for the elderly. There are only 1,500 places in the private or subsidised market, even though 2.1 million residents are currently over the age of 60. This shortage has put strain on society, but what can be done?
Utilising the Northern Metropolis, which offers a wealth of land and new opportunities, there is chance to focus on the needs of the elderly by creating a dedicated New Development Area, which would also position Hong Kong as a pioneer in this rapidly growing market - a win-win for everyone.
