Overview

Ravenscraig in Lanarkshire, western Scotland, was the last major steelworks to be developed in the UK and was closed in 1992. Now, an £800 million destination is being led by the Ravenscraig Partnership, which comprises Wilson Bowden Developments Ltd, Scottish Enterprise Lanarkshire and site owners Corus.

Destination Consulting was originally appointed in 2001 to deliver a destination strategy for the former steel works Ravenscraig.

Strategy

The strategy focused on the key destination drivers - major lifestyle and attraction projects that will strengthen the catchment and provide unique market positioning for Ravenscraig - and the destination's overall brand proposition to investors, consumers and potential residents.

In 2003, Destination Consulting prepared a successful funding application to sportscotland for £6m to support the development of a new flagship Regional Sports Facility, which will be designed as a multi-purpose venue capable of hosting a range of sports and other leisure events.
