Bucharest, February 17th, 2015 – Colliers International, the leading real estate consultancy company on the corporate segment in Romania, launches a new service line, dedicated to the green certification of interior spaces under the LEED Commercial Interiors rating system. This is a new certification advisory service that addresses in particular the sustainability needs of office buildings occupiers in Romania, thus marking a new milestone in the maturity of the local real estate market.

The first project in Romania targets the certification of Colliers International’s headquarter in Bucharest, the first of a global network that counts 485 offices in 63 countries. The green certification follows a previous successful endeavor of the Romanian team - in 2013, Colliers partnered with ASUS, Techo, Bene, Bittnet Systems, Saint-Gobain RIGIPS and architecture studio Prographic to redesign its Bucharest office according to the needs of Gen Y employees, in the pursuit of creating a prototype for the office of the future. For the LEED-CI certification, Colliers turned to the “green” lighting solutions provided by Greentek, with the scope to improve interior lighting, increase employee efficiency and further reduce electricity costs.

“The Commercial Interiors certification is <the next trend> on the real estate market, as green certificates quickly become the practice that dictate the future of commercial development. We are proud to be part of this trend’s vanguard and, thus, make the commitment to help our clients implement and promote sustainable practices in the design and operations of their spaces”, states Oana Drumea, LEED Green Associate within the Real Estate Management Services team of Colliers International Romania.

For Colliers International’s headquarter in Bucharest, Greentek offered a top solution of LED lamps, as well as a software for the intelligent management of lighting. This intelligent lighting solution leads to savings in energy of up to 65%, sensing the presence of people in a certain area of a room as well as the intensity of the ambient light in that particular area. The custom-made project includes 85 LED lamps, most of them from the Kaypro series, with a life span of 50,000 hours, zero flickering and zero maintenance required”, said Victor Cotrutz, CEO and founder Greentek LED Lighting.

The LEED® for Commercial Interiors Rating System (LEED-CI) is an integrated design tool used to minimize environmental impact and maximize occupant comfort and performance of tenant spaces. LEED-CI is the industry benchmark for green design and construction of tenant improvements. Using LEED-CI, tenants and design teams can make sustainable choices and improve the indoor environment within the scope of work they control. LEED-CI certification is a third-party validation of the sustainability achievements of the tenant’s improvement projects, and provides a recognized leadership brand to promote interior environments that are healthy, productive and efficient.

Beyond the CSR attributes and corporate image enhancement, occupying an office space that is LEED–CI certified provides companies with practical, statistically proven advantages such as: enhanced occupants’ well-being, better indoor air quality, improved employee retention and lower absenteeism, up to 30% lower operating and maintenance costs and up to 16% higher productivity.

Colliers International is one of the first real estate companies in Romania with accredited professionals to offer green certification advisory services, following the launch of its dedicated service in 2011. Colliers offers consultancy for LEED and BREEAM certifications for existing buildings and interior spaces, with the purpose of improving their performance and sustainability, as well as for new developments. Presently Colliers has a portfolio of 19 projects in Romania and more than 30 projects across other CEE countries in obtaining the Green Certification.
