In what will be an unforgettable year, the continued interest from overseas investors in 2020 is testament to the value that is to be found in UK commercial property. In 2020, cross border capital accounted for a record 50% share of all investment volumes.

The commercial property market experienced the usual, although more modest than usual, end of year surge, however we are confident that the economy and CRE market will bounce back strongly once lockdown and travel restrictions are eased in the coming months.

We are therefore pleased to share with you our recently released Foreign Investment Map for 2020, where we highlight the capital flows into the UK from various countries across the world and various asset classes. In this, we also highlight -

  • There has been an influx of investors from Singapore, focusing heavily on London and the South East
  • German investors were the main buyers in three English regions
  • For the UK overall, US investors were the most acquisitive, spending a total of £9.3 billion in 2020

A full country breakdown can be found in the document.
