This section, Macroeconomic View, was written by Dr Walter Boettcher, our Head of Research & Economics, and includes commentary on demographics, sector strength, risk/return profiles, downside risks and more.

The healthcare market in its various forms continues to be attractive to investors of all types, whether debt, equity, or a combination of both looking to secure high quality assets from a limited pool of opportunities. There is the well-known demand driver of the ageing population but also the attractive long RPI leases for real estate investors and growth opportunities with established and emerging operator platforms. The continued drive to improve the available care stock also means opportunities in new developments.

I am the the Chief Economist at global property advisors Colliers International based in London.  I am a research economist identifying timely research topics and directing research and forecasting outputs.

I have over 20 years UK and European property industry experience and extensive expertise across a wide range of property sectors and related industries.

I participate regularly in industry panel discussions, but am focused more on direct client engagement with institutions, property companies, banks, and private investors. A regular media commentator, I have a wide range of national and broadcast experience.

I joined Colliers International in August 2007 after several years at a private property company where he was responsible for managing a mixed portfolio of London residential, retail and office assets.

Previously, I worked in a few London property advisory firms, a geodemographic company as well as a few youthful sojourns in the US offshore oil industry, local government and entertainment business.

I am an economics graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and received his PhD from the Faculty of Science at University College London.  I am a member of Lambda Alpha International and the Society of Property Researchers.

Perhaps best known for my alternative take on property economics and investment, I am a keen proponent of UK regional development and infrastructure investment.

Also providing strategic portfolio and real estate advice, exit strategies and portfolio valuations for a number of the largest care providers and healthcare funds both in the UK and Europe.

Specilaist sectors include elderly care, private hospials, senior living and specialist adult services.

Over 25 years experience in Real Estate Investment/Development transactions. Co-founder of Vector Property Group, a niche investment advisory company specialising in private client investment in real estate providing long term secure income from retail, leisure and 'alternative' sectors. This followed 12 years experience in the core markets at Strutt & Parker, Fuller Peiser and Rogers Chapman, advising institutional investors.

Since 2006, focused on the emerging investment market in Healthcare Real Estate. Advice includes raising capital via sale and leaseback, going concern sales/acquisitions, development of high quality healthcare real estate, leased investment sales and disposals. Advice throughout the Healthcare sector in UK including residential/nursing/dementia care homes, private hospitals, specialist LD and Mental Health facilities, ASD/BESD education facilities, supported living.

Provided advice to Landlords on the restructure of the Southern Cross estate of over 700 care homes. More recently advising on development opportunities in rapidly expanding market in retirement and extra care.

Became Full Partner at Strutt & Parker in September 2015 (now BNP Paribas Real Estate) with remit to build a team focused on the 'Alternative' real estate markets, particularly Healthcare, Hotels and Student Accommodation.

Qualified Chartered Surveyor in 1994, BSc (Hons) Degree.
