Colliers believes that local and national hotel operators in Cebu can retain and attract customers by offering loyalty programs, as international operators very much do. Among the perks that operators can provide to loyal customers are free Wi-Fi access, discounts in restaurants and room upgrades. Operators should ensure their loyalty programs are easily accessible online and through smartphones and tablets. Colliers believes that operators should be aggressive in partnering with app developers to access new tourism markets and tailor offerings based on customers’ preferences. We also encourage hotel operators to pursue a yield maximisation strategy that considers average daily expenditure (ADE) and average length of stay (ALS) of foreign tourists. Factoring in ALS and ADE should enable marketing budgets to be more targeted. This should also guide developers in deciding the appropriate mix of hotel rooms and apartment suites to be constructed in the future.

Duros Group to focus on tourism investments

NEWS

The Duros Group of Companies announced to put more of its money in tourism related businesses in the next few years.
In an interview with the Group’s president Fe M. Barino she said apart from expediting the completion of its 200-hectare township in Liloan, Cebu, which is also developing a retirement facility within the property, the company is also building more hotels in Cebu, as well as other tourism destinations in the Philippines.
In fact, next month the company will launch a 38-room resort in Siargao Island in Surigao del Norte, called Gana Siargao Island Resort.

Colliers sees the completion of the second terminal of MCIA playing a crucial role in the country’s goal of attracting up to 12 million foreign visitors by 2022.The modernised and expanded airport can now accommodate up to 12.5 million passengers annually from 4 million previously. We believe that the potential surge in arrivals is enticing local and national hotel developers in Cebu to ramp up construction. While local players have been bringing in foreign hotel operators, national developers have been maximising homegrown brands.

Colliers believes that demand for accommodation facilities in Bacolod will continue to grow as the city remains a preferred location for outsourcing operations. A number of existing voice business process outsourcing (BPO) firms are continuously expanding while some knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) companies are looking at the city as a potential site outside of Metro Manila. In our opinion, the location of the old Bacolod airport could also be redeveloped into a mixed-use integrated community that features hotels and serviced apartments. Developers should consider the redeveloped Lahug property in Cebu as an example. The former location of the Cebu Airport is now a bustling IT park housing office, residential, and retail towers which partly support demand for hotel projects in the area.
