Colliers International and GVA sell The Cliffden Hotel in Devon, to Starboard

The property was put on the market for offers over £1.35 million on behalf of their client Guide Dogs, the charity that helps blind and partially sighted people across the UK through the provision of guide dogs, mobility and other rehabilitation services.

The 47-bedroom hotel is set in six acres of manicured gardens in an elevated position above the attractive tourist town of Teignmouth. Starboard will continue to provide holiday accommodation for the visually impaired, whilst also appealing to the wider hotel market.

Starboard Hotels is one of the hospitality sectors fastest growing, privately owned operator/owners of multi-branded hotels. It has a portfolio of 20 hotels across the UK under leading brands including Holiday Inn Express, Best Western, Days Inn and Ibis.

Julian Troup, Head of UK Hotels at Colliers, commented: “We are pleased that we have completed the sale of this hotel to buyers that will continue to support people with sight loss.

“Furthermore, the substantial three-storey property provides an excellent opportunity for the new owners to further enhance and develop the hotel offer for guests.

“As anticipated, significant interest was generated from both domestic and overseas buyers, resulting in multiple formal offers being received.”

David Creamore, Director of the Hotels and Leisure Team at GVA’s London office added: “The hotel generated considerable interest from a wide range of potential buyers and, following a full open and joint marketing campaign, a sale was agreed to Starboard Hotels.

“Starboard was selected as the purchaser of The Cliffden Hotel given that it has already successfully completed the purchase of the Windermere Manor Hotel, the sister hotel to the Cliffden Hotel, and that it is the group’s intention to continue providing holiday accommodation for guests with all abilities, including people with sight loss.”

Colliers International and GVA acted as joint agents on behalf of their clients the charity Guide Dogs who sold the hotel for strategic reasons in order to focus on their core activities.

Paul Callingham, Managing Director and founder of Starboard Hotels, said: “This is second hotel that we have ax acquired from the charity Guide Dogs.

“We intend to sympathetically restore the hotel, maintaining the great facilities that already exist for people with sight loss and their families, alongside offering superb facilities for everyone to enjoy. We look forward to welcoming the hotel team and guests to enjoy being part of the Starboard family.”
