New owner snaps up landmark Blackdown Hills pub

The Flintlock Inn at Marsh near Honiton has changed hands following a deal brokered by Colliers International.

Occupying a fantastic road-side position on the A303 as it weaves its way through the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the traditional country pub boasts a large trade garden, an excellent four-bedroom flat as well as potential for re-development.

Situated on the Somerset and Devon border, Marsh is easily reached from Taunton, Yeovil and Exeter.

The pub sold off an asking price of £525,000 for the freehold.

Ed Jefferson from Colliers International’s hotels team said: “The Flintlock is a stunning roadside pub which has been re-geared to focus on the catering trade.”

The main bar has up to 40 covers while the restaurant provides a further 40 in a smart dining room which can also be configured for functions.

Ed Jefferson said the new owners are Ann Sealey who is relocating from Cumbria, along with her daughter and son in law, Harriet and Hassen Said and their young children, relocating from Suffolk.

Ed Jefferson explained: “The new owners have a breadth of experience in the catering, hospitality and food safety industry, however this is their first endeavour together running a public house. The move will bring three generations of the family together to unite in their passion for food and hospitality.”

Harriet said: “We are pleased to have found the Flintlock Inn, as it offers the food focused establishment and the family home that we were so hoping to find. For us this purchase provides the opportunity for our family to come together doing something that we all love.

“We are looking forward to working with the current owners, Meryl and Paulo, during a transition period that will ensure we maintain the standards that the Flintlock Inn’s customer have come to expect.”

Paulo and Meryl Antunes placed the property on the market after 23 years at the helm in order to pursue their retirement plans.
