A new dawn for the Full Moon

20 11 19 rudge hotel

Country inn sold following deal brokered by Colliers International.

A country inn which has been at the heart of its rural community near Bath for centuries has been sold by global real estate advisor Colliers International.

The deal heralds the dawn of a new era for the Full Moon at Rudge, some 20 miles from Bath, a similar distance from the Longleat estate and a short drive from Frome.

The oldest part of the Grade II listed building is believed to date back as far as 1640 and started life as a coaching inn.

The property includes a large beer garden with far-reaching views of the surrounding countryside.

It currently has five en-suite letting bedrooms and a spacious function room which can seat around 85 people, and which features its own bar. The new owners, a family from Surrey, plan to increase the number of en-suite letting bedrooms to eight by renovating part of the old manager’s apartment and converting a large ground floor office to a disabled access bedroom.

It’s an intimate and welcoming pub with flagstone floors, a feature fireplace, plenty of cosy spaces and settles, and a skittle alley. The “new” Full Moon will retain and build on the authenticity of the past 400 years, while providing an experience fully aligned with modern comforts and needs.

The events room, with its terrace opening onto the large beer garden, will be significantly upgraded to host a day-time coffee bar and private events.

Ed Jefferson from Colliers International’s hotels team said: “This is a charming country inn situated in an area well-known for its walking and local fishing rivers.

“The previous owner acquired it in 2017 and carried out a number of improvements before deciding to sell it, so it represents excellent value for money.
“There are attractive gardens to the front and rear, with plenty of room for a marquee, making this an ideal summer pub.

“It is only lightly-traded and offers plenty of potential for the new owners to complete the refurbishments, re-open the letting rooms and re-introduce a food offering, which means this could be an exciting new dawn for the Full Moon.”

The Full Moon’s new owners said: “The Full Moon’s purpose is to create happy and memorable experiences for all our loyal locals and trusting guests, through providing honest, authentic, local, fairly priced and always lovely pub food, drink and a place to stay.”
