Shilton village pub crowns its next proprietor

15 02 22 Shilton village pub crowns its next proprietor hero

The Shilton Rose and Crown has been sold, from a guide price of £650,000.

The Shilton Rose and Crown is a Grade II listed, traditional Cotswolds village pub built in the 1600’s, situated in the idyllic village of Shilton just two miles south of Burford.

The building is constructed of classic Cotswolds stone, with heavily beamed ceilings, and oozes quintessentially English charm. Inside, there is a cosy inglenook fireplace, timber fronted servery bar and an adjacent dining room seating up to 45 people. At the rear, there are attractive gardens, a large barn with scope for conversion and over three acres of land.

The Shilton Rose and Crown has traded independently for the last 15 years and the owner has now sold the property to allow him to retire.

Director at the Rose & Crown Elizabeth Koo Donnelly said “We were really pleased to find such a beautiful inn for sale, and we are excitedly looking forward to building on the legacy of the former owner and to create new accommodation in the barn that we are currently drawing up plans for.  We are aiming to make The Rose & Crown a must visit destination in the region and welcoming customers old and new.”

The Rose and Crown is exceptionally well placed and attracts trade from a wide area, due to its location just off the A40. It is a well-known establishment in the Cotswolds, drawing a mixture of regular local customers and international travellers as the location featured in the popular television drama, Downton Abbey. It has featured in the Michelin Guide, The Good Pub Guide and has had a Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor.

Peter Brunt, a director in Colliers Hotels Agency team, said: “The Shilton Rose and Crown is a fantastic property with excellent development potential and scope for growth. We are thrilled to be a part of its historic journey and wish the new owners all the best in their tenure. I am sure that property will bring them years of happiness and most importantly profit. I am looking forward to seeing how the business will further develop and thrive in their hands.  This is the third smart inn located in and around this region that has completed through me in 2022 showing how strong demand is for these lovely businesses”.
