Colliers’ Football Heroes Victorious in Property Week Cup

The pitch was in excellent condition, the sun was shining and there were no excuses for a poor touch! The day was split in to two; the morning consisted of three 9-a-side group games on half a pitch and the afternoon was the knock out stages, 11-a-aide on the full size pitch. Each match was 20 minutes in length. The top two teams in the group go into the cup and the bottom two into the plate draw. Colliers were drawn in Group B along with Altus Group, BNP and Savills.

Our first game against Savills ended in a 0-0 draw, both teams were unaware our paths would cross again in the final. We turned on the style against Altus Group with a two nil win; Tom Warren scored the goal of the day with a thunderbolt 20 yards out, Rob Beeching got the second after a sweeping move from defence to attack.

In our third game we knew we need to win by two clear goals to top the group. After a fantastic start going one nil up by Abban Magos, we conceded are one and only goal of the day when the stalwart at the back, Alex Titheridge, was fouled, not seen by the referee, allowed their striker through on goal to draw the game level. We managed two quick fire goals before the full time whistle to edge out Savills and win the group. Goals from Rob Beeching and Brian Mooney. The only negative was the injury to John O’Connor ruling him out for the rest of the day.

We were drawn against Fourfront Group in the quarter final. It was nervy start by Colliers but up stepped Emmanuel Mensah with two superbly taken goals, both deft chips over the keeper.

In the semis we were drawn against one of the favourites of the tournament, SAS (Shop Agents Society). Our back four made up of Joe Swinson, Dan Goodrum, Alex Titheridge and Tom Warren did not give SAS an opportunity. This provided the perfect platform for our flair players to really show their skills; David Ansell was great down the right and scored a wonderful solo goal. Our number nine, Brian Mooney, finished off a great move from close range as Colliers came out as two nil winners.

The final was exactly how we started the day, we were up against Savills. The match was played under the floodlights as the night sky slowly closed in. Colliers started off much the better side and grabbed a deserved lead when Rob Beeching went on a lung busting run, avoiding a number of challenges before striking the ball low just outside the box into the bottom right hand corner. We managed to contain Savills’ attack and bring the cup home!

Special mention to Rob Beeching for picking up player of the tournament. The trophies were presented by Bobby Moore’s wife.

Thanks for LSH for organising and hopefully lots of money has been raised to support such a great cause. It was a great day had by all.
