Project & Building Consultancy shortlisted for the prestigious AJ100 Building of The Year Award

The Sammy Ofer Centre, formally known as Old Marylebone Town Hall, are the iconic listed buildings on the corner of Gloucester Place and Marylebone Road, consisting of the Council House and Annexe, the site of the famous registry office where amongst other notable events, Prince George’s birth was registered and Sir Paul McCartney was twice married.

The team firstly advised the London Business School (LBS) on the acquisition of the long leasehold interest in both buildings from Westminster City Council. LBS is consistently rated in the top 3 business schools in the world and was keen to secure a development site close to their existing Regent’s Park campus to maintain their expansion plans. Due to the political pressure to maintain a presence in the building it was agreed that the registry office would remain and be refurbished as part of the redevelopment, with the registrars returning under a sublease to LBS.

Following the acquisition, the team was assigned as project manager for the design phase to secure planning and listed building consent for the following scheme to create a state of the art teaching facility.

The project also included the complete replacement of all services throughout both buildings. Having secured the statutory approvals, the team was then appointed as project manager and contract administrator for the £75 million redevelopment contract which started on site in 2014. The completed scheme was opened by HRH The Princess Royal in September 2017.
