Colliers International sold Europe's number one hotel resort
Erste Abwicklungsanstalt (EAA) has sold the prestigious Castello di Casole in Italy to Belmond for 39 million euros. For five consecutive years Castello di Casole has been voted as the best resort in Europe by Travel + Leisure Magazine and Time Magazine. Colliers International's Dutch hotel team, led by Dirk Bakker (Head of EMEA Hotels), accompanied and structured this transaction.
Located in the Tuscan hills, near Florence and Siena, the resort has been in existence since the 10th century. The luxury hotel has 39 rooms and is set between 1,500 hectares of farmland, vineyards and olive groves. The estate is also used for 49 luxury villas. It is one of the largest private estates in Italy.
The design of the spacious suites and villas is based on the rich Tuscan traditions. The rooms have original stone floors and some include a private garden. From the pool, guests have a wonderful view over the Tuscan landscape.
Belmond is a global collection of exceptional hotel and luxury travel adventures in some of the world’s most inspiring destinations. Established in 1976, its unique and distinctive portfolio now embraces 49 hotels, trains and river cruises.
Roeland Vos, President and Chief Executive Officer of Belmond, is delighted to announce the addition of Castello di Casole to the Belmond portfolio. ''Castello di Casole combines culture, nature and wellbeing to create memorable travel experiences.’’ Over the next four years, Belmond expects to invest 7.3 million euros in a phased refurbishment of the hotel. This includes the addition of two new villas.
Dirk Bakker adds: ''Belmond is one of the best hotel operators in the luxury segment and Castello di Casole fits perfectly in their portfolio. I am proud that the Dutch hotel team brought these two parties together. Under the leadership of Belmond, the resort will take the next step to further strengthen its number 1 position. ''
