CNM Estates has today appointed global property advisers Colliers International, to review proposals for the regeneration of Birnbeck Pier and Island in Weston-Super-Mare as part of its plans to restore the pier and create a unique hotel, residential and supporting retail scheme.

The Grade II* listed Birnbeck Pier is situated on the Bristol Channel in Weston-Super-Mare, North Somerset, and is the only pier in the country which links the mainland to an island.

In designing a scheme to celebrate the pier’s heritage alongside an exciting residential and leisure opportunity, Colliers International’s Development Consultancy and Agency division in London and Bristol, together with the heritage and pier expertise of the Destination Consultancy team will provide advice regarding the mix and quantum of enabling development in order to drive the fiscal opportunity for the repair and regeneration of the pier and island.

Anthony Shapland, Head of Development Consultancy and Agency at Colliers International said, “We are thrilled to be working with CNM Estates to find a solution for the asset.  We will consider all development opportunities and delivery mechanisms and we are keen to engage with the community and all interested parties and individuals.  Creating a joint delivery mechanism with a third party has not been ruled out.  We will investigate the potential for the site and propose the most appropriate and viable solution for all concerned. We will increase momentum and meet demand for progress on the site and will release further details of our workplan within the coming working week.”

Wahid Samady, Chairman of CNM Estates commented “This is a pivotal scheme for Weston-Super-Mare and we were keen to work with Colliers on this project, knowing that the company already has a proven track record for private and public sector clients on numerous commercial, leisure and residential instructions in Weston-Super-Mare, including work on the Weston Grand Pier, advising North Somerset Council on a 50 Acre Brownfield site and the Weston Airfield site. Colliers brings some unique specialist expertise, including direct experience with Paignton and Skegness Piers. I have given Colliers a clear and open mandate to come up with options to move this project forward, and have asked them to engage in broad consultation with key stakeholders.”
