Well placed for the commute to Wells, Bath or Bristol, the former school house in the village of Binegar in North Somerset is being marketed by Colliers International alongside joint agents Greenslade Taylor Hunt.

With a planning permission for conversion into a detached four-bedroom home, the old school house has been standing empty for some time after attempts to find an alternative community use failed.

The detached 19th century building -   typical of village schools across the Mendips – is less than half a mile from the A37 between Wells and Bristol.

Ben Meynell from the Bristol-based Development Consulting and Agency team said: “We are now stepping up efforts to find a new buyer for the old school in a bid to resolve the uncertainty over the future use of the site. The layout is largely open with a classroom and ancillary accommodation presenting an opportunity for an imaginative conversion.”

The approved plans show a large open plan living area, separate utility room and four bedrooms along with a new self-contained access to the site to allow for up to four cars to be parked in the former playground.

Ben went on: “It is now hoped that the site will be converted into a home that will preserve the historic character of the building, which is prominently located within the village less than 100 yards from the Village Church.”
