Colliers International responds to proposals to change Right to Light laws.
Anthony Aitken, Head of planning at Colliers International said: “Colliers International welcome the proposal by Nick Boles Planning Minister to modify the archaic laws relating to rights of light.
“Modern developments are still subject to requirements for good design and take into account the impact on neighbours and their levels amenity, of which light forms part. On this basis planning officials when considering development proposals take this matter into account. In recent years the ancient rights of light legislation has been used as a means to prevent or delay development, which in unacceptable in the current economic climate.
“This modernisation forms part of the wider Government’s objectives to reduce red tape and delay to development via the planning process, which are supported by Colliers International.”
