01.03.2012Colliers International was once again sponsors and exhibitors at the annual British Holiday & Home Park Association conference, held at the QEII Exhibition Centre in London. The delegates from Colliers where on hand to meet and greet the deluge of delegates in attendance, ranging from corporate and private operators to BH & HPA representatives and MPs. Recognising that the best way to get the correct market tone is to get amongst the main people on the ground, Colliers, as ever showing that they are among the best placed in the market to provide advice, discussed the market from various perspectives with a wide variety of delegates. The general sentiment was cautious optimism. Operators are finding lower footfall, unless they are in traditional tourist and “honeypot” locations, however demand for holidays is still high. Also with a high quality offering in a high quality location, tourists are willing to part with their hard earned disposable income, with families in particular choosing domestic breaks as opposed to holidays abroad. Linked to this there is also an appetite for purchasing holiday homes, although once again it is the high quality, well-located, businesses that are most optimistic. The outcome then, is that to continue to trade, and be successful, operators are seeing the need to “raise the bar” in terms of what they offer in order to beat off the competition.
