In early 2014, Colliers International’s Hong Kong Project Management team (PJM) was approached by Sun Life Hong Kong, the financial services behemoth with a 120-year track record in Hong Kong, who needed to fit out their entire 19,000-square-foot Hung Hom harbourfront office with state-of-the-art audio-visual capability. Sun Life was aware that the Colliers PJM team had the specific IT and technical skills, as well as the building fit-out and project management experience, to deliver the functionality and service levels they were looking for.
Sun Life needed to create a high-availability audiovisual communications and broadcast environment that would facilitate Sun Life staff’s ability to share and present business materials, in multiple rooms on two floors. By first interviewing operational and managerial staff in each department, Colliers learned about the needs of ultimate users and how the facilities were expected to be used.
The Colliers design proposal had at its heart an information nerve centre, in a single room that already housed the company’s IT systems, from which many kilometres of distribution cabling and IT infrastructure fanned out to multiple audiovisual systems – including televisions, projectors, multimedia and video conferencing systems – configured to the needs of each department.
NEED TO MEET ALL EXPECTATIONS
The Colliers team recognised from the outset that this was to be a highly demanding project. The size and complexity, and especially the urgent timeframe and strict budget constraints, meant that a highly detailed plan needed to be in place before commencing site execution, to ensure that everything went without a hitch.
The team had to deliver both high availability to end users – who expected to be able to walk into any room and confidently use communication and presentation facilities, and adequate control and management by Sun Life.
A detailed design was submitted, which necessitated researching availability of many components. Once the design was approved, Colliers moved up a gear and triggered
provisional supply agreements, securing all components for the new systems in record time. The team then managed the installation, testing and configuring of these systems.
A level of customisation is necessary for every project, and like any other client, Ruckus had specific demands and expectations that Colliers as the service provider had to meet without hesitation.
DOWN TO THE WIRE
The complex specifications and need to constantly work around the operations of a live office kept the Hong Kong team on their toes.
After many months’ planning, discussion and development of individual AV systems and related IT and distribution cabling, Colliers was able to deliver a fully integrated AV infrastructure, on time and on budget, meeting all the client’s expectations. The ease with which Sun Life staff took up the new facilities – to augment their business interaction with clients and each other – offers the best possible confirmation of a job well done.
