UK Graduate Training Programme

Our UK Graduate Training Programme will provide you with a first-class platform from which to launch your surveying career.

 

It has been designed to ensure that you are able to demonstrate the required level of knowledge, skills, and behaviours associated with becoming RICS qualified surveyor.

 

For our cognate Commercial Property vacancies, we welcome applications from candidates who already have, or are predicted to obtain, a RICS accredited degree by September 2021. Please note that this is not a requirement for our non-cognate Commercial Property London vacancy.

 

We welcome applications from any degree discipline who meet the entry requirements.

Our Pathways

 

Please note for 2021 we will not be running a Building Surveying or Quantity Surveying pathway, however we hope to be able to restart both of these pathways in 2022.

 


This structured two-year programme focuses on the completion of the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) through the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

 

Graduate Surveyors will benefit from having an opportunity to build their experience across a wide range of services and specialisations that will help them gain a better understanding of the commercial real estate industry as a whole. The rotation scheme consists of one 12 month rotation and two 6 month rotations.

 

The structured training programme includes three development conferences, APC training days, internal mocks and an assigned APC Supervisor and Counsellor. As well as the structured training, Graduate Surveyors are entitled to take up to 5 days of study leave prior to their APC.

 

It is essential that an applicant already has, or is working towards the completion of a RICS accredited degree or a RICS accredited masters conversion course.

What is the application process?

 

Our 2021 application process will run from April – July. If you would like to apply, please ensure you are available to attend both virtual and office-based interviews and assessments during this time.

 


After you submit your CV you will be required to complete an application form to give us more information on yourself and to understand your motivation for the industry and joining Colliers. We have vacancies across various locations and, as part of the application, we will give you the opportunity to select an alternative location preference if you are flexible on this.

This is where we will find out more about you and your passion for property. Telephone interviews will last about 20 minutes .

You will be asked a number of behavioural, commercial awareness and property specific questions. Interviews will last around 45 minutes.

At this stage in the process you will participate in a further interview and exercises which are designed to assess your suitability for the role you are applying to. Assessment centres will take place in June 2021.

With the hope that restrictions will be lifted by June 2021, we will invite you to a mixer held in our George Street headquarters in London. Here you meet a group of our Department Heads, Directors, and members of our HR Team.

Graduate Challenge

Graduate Challenge

Each year our graduates take on a challenge - our most recent saw 30 graduates complete a 165 mile cycle challenge to raise money for Mental Health UK. The London-to-Amsterdam ride took a gruelling two days to complete, starting at the Stratford Olympic Park and finishing at the Rijks Museum in central Amsterdam. The much anticipated journey saw the cyclists pedal a tough 90 miles on day one, to the port of Harwich. After an overnight ferry to the Hook of Holland, it was then a final 75 miles to the centre of Amsterdam. Every year the new intake of Colliers’ graduates take on and organise a corporate challenge for a charity of their choice. This year’s challenge has raised more than £21,000 that will go towards providing mental health support, information and advice to many people across the UK.

Jessica Harding

What is the most interesting thing about working at Colliers, and about the work you do?

No two days are ever the same. I can find myself surveying the roof of a listed building one day and writing a specification for warehouse refurbishment the next. My work is always varied.

 

What are three benefits you’ve discovered about working at Colliers that you weren’t aware of when you started?

My office is very social and there is something for everyone! For example, we have been to the rugby, got ‘locked in a room’ and we have a book club.

Graduates are given responsibility early on.

The network amongst graduates is really good which is so helpful as you edge closer to sitting the APC.

 

What advice would you give a candidate who’s thinking about applying for a job with us?

Colliers expect a lot of their graduates, so be prepared to put in the work! But equally, they will give a lot to get you through your training and the level and breadth of experience you will get is second to none.

 

When you tell people about your job, what’s one thing that surprises them, or gets them excited about the work you do?

The exposure that I have to high level clients. I have acted on behalf of some really exciting clients such as Aviva and Global Radio.

 

What does working at Colliers enable you to BE?

Excited about my future as a building surveyor!

What is the most interesting thing about working at Colliers, and about the work you do?

Every surveyor will tell you how varied our work is daily. What Colliers does differently is the way we are taught to think outside the box – to approach situations from a different perspective. The collaboration and sharing of different ideas is most interesting at Colliers.

 

What are three benefits you’ve discovered about working at Colliers that you weren’t aware of when you started?

  1. There’s a strong sense of cohesion and teamwork, and the open plan floors make it easy to approach anyone in the business.
  2. There are regular office mixers which are a great way to meet other members of the company and learn about the different service lines we offer.
  3. There’s a new wellbeing hub and we have recently launched a diversity and inclusion programme led by internal steering groups that are open to anyone.

 

What advice would you give a candidate who’s thinking about applying for a job with us?

There’s so much that Collier’s has to offer, and plenty to get involved with as a graduate. Follow what we get up to on Instagram, twitter or Linkedin and use this to your advantage in interviews.

 

When you tell people about your job, what’s one thing that surprises them, or gets them excited about the work you do?

How much time I spend out and about, exploring new markets and meeting different people. You get a lot of responsibility as a graduate, including the flexibility to manage your own schedule and create new opportunities for the business.

 

What does working at Colliers enable you to BE?

Colliers enables me to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to be confident and effective at the job at hand, whilst guiding me towards my own career goals.

What is the most interesting thing about working at Colliers, and about the work you do?

A career in property offers a very diverse work load with no two days ever being the same. What Colliers does differently is the amount of collaboration that occurs between the different departments. This allows for ideas to be shared, creating new business streams and lets you get involved in unique projects.

What are three benefits you’ve discovered about working at Colliers that you weren’t aware of when you started?

The level of responsibility that you are given from Day 1.

Colliers are committed to providing a fun and sociable workplace. Pre-covid we had regular whole company mixers allowing us to meet many people across the different service lines. More recently these mixers have been replaced by regular drinks trolleys!
Colliers has an extensive support network through the APC training programme but also through different initiatives such as the mentor scheme, woman’s network and charitable events.

What advice would you give a candidate who’s thinking about applying for a job with us?

Be prepared to work hard and given responsibility. But also to take full advantage of the many opportunities available to you outside of your day to day job. It is the best way to meet people across the business and ultimately build up your personal connections

What does working at Colliers enable you to BE?

Colliers has enabled me to be myself. I have been able to develop the necessary skills allowing me to be confident in my role and improve the quality of my work.

What is the most interesting thing about working at Colliers, and about the work you do?

As a building surveyor, I think the most interesting this for me is the variety of work we get to work on. It keeps you interested in the work rather than doing the same job day in day out.

 

What are three benefits you’ve discovered about working at Colliers that you weren’t aware of when you started?

The flexibility in working within Project and building consultancy is something that really surprised me to the point where I don’t think I could go back to a standard 9-5 Format.

 

The networking opportunity’s, both within the company and externally, are really encouraged and as a young professional I love to see this.

The opportunity to give back to charity was something I didn’t realise when I applied and as a graduate cohort, raising over £24000 for charity in our first year was a massive highlight.

 

What advice would you give a candidate who’s thinking about applying for a job with us?

Don’t think twice, the graduate programme is very good and everyone at the company is very open so you can talk about anything and you will be greeted with an open mind.

 

When you tell people about your job, what’s one thing that surprises them, or gets them excited about the work you do?

As a building surveyor, I think it’s the type of project jobs that we undertake, and the things we get to see in or day to day jobs.

 

What does working at Colliers enable you to BE?

A chartered building surveyor who possesses rounded experience and has good links within the industry. A professional that has dealt with all aspects of a large business.
