What are the logistics challenges of tomorrow?


With the explosion of the Internet and the advent of the digital age, consumer habits and the commercial world have been turned upside down. Buying in one click from your computer, tablet or smartphone has never been easier in an increasingly connected world.

E-commerce is revolutionising not only the world of retailers, but also that of supply chain players with many challenges: deliver more products of any size in shorter timeframes to anywhere in the world. In this context of higher volume flows, storing, preparing, shipping and delivering orders are key issues, for which logistics plays a fundamental role.

With the rise of e-commerce, new forms of warehouses have appeared: from the colossus, the “XXL” warehouse, located in the peripheral logistics zones to small units close to the main consumption centres, needs have risen to cope with increased volumes, as well as delivery and flow management issues. The industry is organised and structured to meet the constraints and requirements of e-commerce in a regulatory environment that is sometimes restrictive.

A sign of a promising market, property market activity on logistics assets appears dynamic with a tenant demand boosted by the needs of e-commerce and an asset class that is attracting a greater diversity of investors.
