Hotel Investment Report FY 2018, Spain

Spain has closed 2018 with the highest hotel investment volume in its history. The hotel investment figure reflects transactions of both existing hotels and development projects equating to a total of €4,810 M.

Geographically  the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands captured the highest concentration of investor interest, with 1,631 and 944 M € respectively. Madrid was close behind reaching an investment volume of €601 M, exceeded the €349 M registered in 2017 by + 72.3%.

The Spanish investment volume in a European context equates to 22% compared to 18% in 2017, a significant increase reflecting the importance of the Spanish market within Europe. In 2019 we foresee more moderate growth rates and lower margins for operators and investors.

Laura Hernando is Managing Director of the Hotels Department at Colliers International Spain. She was  partner of irea from January 2017, when she was appointed to partner after more than ten years of professional career at the firm, until March 2018 when irea joined Colliers International.
