- The project, which includes the development of 4 solar plants and a data centre, involves an investment of 230 million euros and will generate 2,000 jobs in the region.
Colliers (NASDAQ, TSX: CIGI), a global leader in real estate investment management and advisory services, has advised BWB (Best Wonder Business S.L.) on the development of the first Data Center powered 100% by renewable photovoltaic energy in the Community of Aragon.
BWB, through its subsidiary Progressum Energy Developments, S.L.U. ("Progressum"), a Spanish company dedicated to the development of renewable energy projects since 2012, is developing 4 solar plants in the province of Zaragoza, with a combined capacity of 178 MWp. These plants will connect to the Peñaflor substation and will also serve to self-supply the new data centre that Progressum itself will develop on a plot located in the Huesca Logistics Platform. The total investment in the project amounts to €230 million, of which €130 million will be allocated to the development of the new data centre.
This data centre project is at the forefront of current developments in this market, as it will be 100% powered by photovoltaic energy generated by solar plants, and will also be eco-sustainable, as it has large-scale batteries to reduce energy costs at peak times, aerothermal energy for cooling and will use construction materials with a neutral carbon footprint.
"Energy is a key differentiator in data centre development. Progressum brings its know-how in photovoltaic projects by integrating renewable energy generation as a backbone of its proposal for the data centre market.
The Colliers Data Centre team has advised us from the outset of the project on aspects such as the conceptual design of the building, the purchase of the land and the preparation of a business plan for the construction of the asset. This transaction is the best example of the excellent synergies that can be created between the logistics market, the data centre market and the energy sector," says Jose Maria Guilleuma, Director of Data Centres at Colliers.
