Greater Bay Area: Keppel DC REIT Buying First China Data Centre for $98M


Keppel DC REIT announced to acquire their first data centre in China at RMB635.9 million (USD98 million). Situated within the Bluesea Intelligence Valley Mega Data Centre Campus in the industrial city of Jiangmen, the property has seven storey floors with a gross floor area of 20,595 square metres (221,689 square feet). The acquired data centre is the first completed development among the six data centres to be completed in the Bluesea Intelligence Valley Mega Data Centre Campus. According to Keppel DC REIT, the property will be leased back to Bluesea for 15 years. Meanwhile, Keppel DC REIT will have the right of first refusal to acquire the remaining five data centres within the campus.

The development of the 5G has further boosted further the data storage demand from cloud service providers and TMT enterprises. Correspondingly, the data centre market has achieved rapid development. As the second-largest data centre market globally and the largest in the Asia Pacific region, China is expected to carry on its strong growth momentum. With the support of strong industrial base in high-tech & TMT, Guangdong province managed to become one of the leading provinces in terms of the market share. 

Internet Data Center (IDC) is a subdivision of Internet infrastructure. It mainly provides a space for large Internet companies, cloud computing enterprises, financial institutions and other customers to store servers in order to obtain space rental fees and value-added service fees. Supported by the strong demand and quick growth of the industry, it is expected that IDC should become a more and more sought-after asset type to enjoyprovide stable rental income and value appreciation.
