James H. Glanville, a native Texan, entered the industrial and commercial real estate business in Houston over 37 years ago and has been an active member of HAR since early 1965.
He has chaired many committees and contributed as a committee member in numerous endeavors. He was instrumental in the selection and acquisition of the present HAR facilities and served as 1976 president of HAR and as convention co-chairman for NAR at the last national convention in Houston in 1976. He was the 1979 REALTOR of the Year, and has served on the HAR Board of Directors as recently as 1992.
He is both an SIOR and a member of the Counselors of Real Estate and is actively participating in national activities of both of those organizations. He is past national president of the SIOR Educational Trust Fund.
Other activities include a past state presidency of The Land Institute, and more than five years as a state and national director.
Past or current civic activities include active participation and board and committee chairmanships in the South Texas Chamber of Commerce, the Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce, the Houston Chamber of Commerce, the Mental Health Association, the Advisory Board of the National Outdoor Leadership School, St. Martin's Church, and various activities for St. Francis School, The Kinkaid School, St. John's School, and is one of the founding contributors of The Episcopal High School. He also served as a director of the Houston Public Library System under a decade of administrations. He is a past director of the English-Speaking Union (ESU) and is also a member of the Houston Rotary Club.
One of several particularly memorable and successful projects in his career included the concealed acquisition (on behalf of Eric and Baron Hilton and the Hilton Hotel Foundation) of the first and original Hilton Hotel in Cisco, Texas, which started the dynasty as recited in the Bedside Reader.
Jim and his wife and partner of 40+ years ,Jill Suzanne, have four adult children, Cheri, James, Jr. and wife Eva, Shawn and wife Julie, Nicole and husband Brendan, and seven grandchildren, Heather, Drew, Patrick, Pierson, Cameron, Lila, and Liam.
Jim is currently still very active in the real estate market, both as a broker with personal production, consulting and expert witness work, and as an investor, primarily in the Greater Houston area, Texas and with activities in several foreign markets, as well as elsewhere in the U.S., including California and Louisiana. Numerous Houston ship channel projects, activities in Fort Bend County, the airport areas, leased and investment properties, and pipeline row projects are included in current business projects.
