James T. Barry III serves as the president of Colliers Barry and oversees the company's sales force. His responsibilities include office, industrial and investment brokerage, sale/leasebacks, tenant representation, confidential acquisitions, real estate consulting, expert witness testimony and site search projects.
Mr. Barry is a graduate of Marquette University High School and an honors graduate of both the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and the University of Chicago Law School, where he served as editor-in-chief of the Law Review. After graduation from law school, he clerked on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Prior to joining Colliers Barry, Mr. Barry practiced law in the real estate and corporate finance departments at Foley & Lardner, where he participated in the structuring, negotiation and consummation of numerous real estate and corporate transactions.
Since joining Colliers Barry, Mr. Barry has been involved in hundreds of industrial, office and investment transactions, including the sale/leaseback of the 60,000 sq. ft. Catholic Family Life Insurance headquarters building, the sale of the 180,000 sq. ft. Woolworth office building, the sale of the 340,000 sq. ft. West Allis Office Center, the sale of the 360,000 sq. ft. former Siemens manufacturing facility and the sale of the 857,000 sq. ft. Briggs & Stratton Vanguard Engine facility to Harley Davidson. In 1997, Mr. Barry won the Wisconsin Commercial Association of Realtors "Deal of the Year" award for the sale of the Briggs & Stratton property. Under Mr. Barry's leadership, Colliers Barry has won the "Deal of the Year" award more times than all of its competitors combined.
In addition to his brokerage services, Mr. Barry has served as a real estate consultant to numerous corporations, including Miller Brewing, Roundy's Inc. and US Bank. He has testified as an expert witness for the City of Milwaukee and other clients. He has spoken before such organizations as the State Bar of Wisconsin, the National Business Institute, the Institute of Real Estate Management, the Institute of Property Taxation and Marquette University 's Graduate School of Business. His articles on legal and real estate topics have been published in The University of Chicago Law Review, The Wisconsin Lawyer, The Small Business Times and other publications and he has served on the Editorial Advisory Board of Midwest Real Estate News. The Milwaukee Business Journal has recognized Mr. Barry as one of the one hundred Milwaukee business leaders "who get things done."
