JOB GROWTH: CONSTRUCTION EMPLOYMENT LEADS THE WAY

Massachusetts has recorded respectable employment growth over the past year, adding 61,400 jobs for the 12-month period ended March 2016.

Which sectors have most contributed to this growth? Over half the jobs have come from two sectors – Education & Health Services and Construction.

While Meds & Eds has been a perennial stalwart, the growth of Construction employment is especially impressive.

The 150,100 jobs in the construction trades in March is up 11.9 percent from year-ago levels and represents the third-highest annual percentage increase in construction jobs in the US.

Any guesses as to # 1 and 2 rank?

If you guessed Hawaii (40,500 construction workers and 20.9% annual growth) and Rhode Island (18,700 workers and 13.3% annual growth), you nailed it.
