Colliers International’s Green Building Certification team has assisted IG Immobilien in the LEED Silver certification of the Váci 33 office building. This is the first certification in Hungary under the LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance rating system.
LEED’s Existing Building rating system encourages existing buildings to implement sustainable practices and reduce their environmental impact, while addressing the major aspects of ongoing building operations. Where other rating systems are focused on design, LEED for Existing Buildings is focused on operations and performance. Certification is based on performance results while the building is in use.
Michael Smithing, FRICS, Director of Colliers Green Building Certification team for Eastern Europe, said: “In the five years since Váci 33 was delivered, the building staff has done an excellent job limiting the building’s energy consumption. The professionalism of the Váci 33 management team made our job achieving LEED certification much easier.” With Colliers assistance the building reduced water consumption by over 40% and achieved an Energy Star score ranking the building in the 92nd percentile for energy consumption. As part of the certification process, Váci 33 has identified a number of ongoing projects which will further reduce the building’s energy consumption and CO2 footprint without requiring significant capital investment.
Váci 33 demonstrated exceptional performance on indoor air quality. In addition to the exceptionally high fresh air supply assured by the building design, Váci 33 has implemented a Green Cleaning program and an Indoor Air Quality Management Program to assure the highest quality air is supplied to the building occupants.
Mr. Klein, CEO IG Immobilien, states, “the LEED Certification project strengthened our relationship with Váci 33's tenants and future tenants. It further supported our efforts to extend our lease contracts with the building's existing tenants.”
