Germany’s online fashion and shoe retailer, Zalando, advised by Colliers International, has leased 20,000 sq m of office space in the Hotel & Office Campus development the Friedrichshain district near the O2 Arena in Berlin. This is the latest in a series of new locations in Berlinfor Zalando which provide flexibility for its continued expansion.

“This has to be one of the most significant lettings by a private company in Berlin this year,” said Marcus Lehmann, Director of Letting, Colliers International in Berlin. “Using our specialist tool “Office Expert” we were able to provide comprehensive consultancy, as well as mapping out a mutual strategy to advance the individual growth of our client.”

Zalando has recently taken space in several developments including 24,000 sq m of the office space in the Neuen Bahnhofstrasse also in the Friedrichshain district advised by Colliers. This building is currently undergoing refurbishment and will be completed in April 2013. Zalando has also leased the entire complex in the Mollstrasse 1 comprising 13, 000 sq m at Alexanderplatz. This building will be thoroughly refurbished in the next few months, and will be occupied in the second half of 2013. Zalando has rented the office space in two further locations in Berlin’s city center in order to meet their requirements at short notice. In total Colliers International has advised Zalando on leasing over 65,000 sq m of office space.

“This leasing by Zalando has led to a shortage of office space in Berlin and supply is now limited. The location along the River Spree near to the O2 Arena has consequently increased in importance,” explains Robert-Christian Gierth Managing Director at Colliers International in Berlin.
