09.07.2011Chris Melia and Jasmijn Muller from the Destination Consulting team have, with specialist input from Tim Ambrose, been advising a cross government committee in Malta on how to make a success of their year as European Capital of Culture in 2018. The work undertaken by the team has considered the ways in which previous cities have achieved regeneration and other economic and social benefits from holding the title and has provided guidance to Malta on how to plan for and deliver 'Valletta 2018'. Earlier this week, Chris from the Manchester office was invited to speak to an audience of 150+ stakeholders and present the findings at the public launch which was held in the magnificent baroque Manoel Theatre in Valletta. In the run-up to 2018, several of the venues to be used during the Cultural Year are likely to undergo significant infrastructure investment. The Destination Consulting team has already been approached to carry out a market assessment and options appraisal for the restoration/re-purposing of a building in the city which is currently used as a covered food market.
