03.03.2011The Bristol office of Colliers International, acting on behalf of SEGRO on its BristolWorks portfolio, have been pivotal in the development of a new initiative which will give a new or fledgling business a unit free for a year at SEGRO’s Ashton Vale Trading Estate. Called The Entrepreneur, the competition is being run in the Bristol Evening Post, the main daily newspaper in the area and is open to businesses within the newspaper’s circulation area. To win the prize, worth over £25,000, businesses have to send in an overview of their operation and outline why they think they should win the unit which includes the lease for 12 months incorporating rent, rates and service charge. Entrants will then be shortlisted, with those successful being invited to present their case in a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style presentation to a panel of judges. The judging panel includes the Editor from the Bristol Evening Post, David Bridges of SEGRO, and Rob Law - a local entrepreneur and the brains behind the hugely successful ‘Trunki’ brand launched on the BBC’s Dragon’s Den TV show. The competition is open to businesses which are already trading or just starting up which would benefit from new premises. Schools, colleges or universities in the area with an entrepreneurial idea are also eligible if they have an idea which would use the unit creatively for a year. Tim Davies, Head of Colliers International’s Bristol office says: “We are really looking forward to giving a Bristol business the right kind of start. We’re confident that this is a new approach to assisting local companies and enabling the budding entrepreneurs of Bristol the opportunity to make their ideas a reality.” The winner will be announced at the newspaper’s black tie Business Awards in June. A series of open days have also been arranged so those considering entering can take a look at the unit before they submit their entry. Colliers International are acting as joint agents on BristolWorks alongside King Sturge.
